We expect more changes to Windows 11’s built-in apps, but most of them don’t seem to exist yet. However, it feels like much of the operating system is finished, so expect a beta release soon for Windows Insiders to test it out.

You may see a new icon in the Windows 11 taskbar and labeled Widget in your operating system. Rumors suggest that Microsoft will bring Windows widgets back, and this early version appears to have included some.

This is obviously an early version of Windows 11, so the widgets won’t fully load into the OS, but slide out and are designed to give you quick access to news, weather and other web content.

Windows 11 also includes a new snap control accessible from the Maximize button in any app. They are the modern equivalent of cascading window features that have existed in operating systems for many years. You can place windows side-by-side and quickly snap them or arrange them into sections on your desktop. Unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be any major updates to the Windows Store yet. This is an early leaked version, so it’s possible that the updates Microsoft is planning aren’t showing up yet.

The Windows Store interface is almost identical to what currently exists in Windows 10, with access to all the same apps currently available.

Microsoft has been known to be working on a new App Store for Windows in recent months, rumored to be a big change from what currently exists. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has promised “greater economic opportunities for developers and creators” with Windows, which will come in the form of a new store.

Microsoft is said to be overhauling the Windows App Store to allow developers to submit all Windows applications, including browsers like Chrome and Firefox. Microsoft may consider allowing third-party commerce platforms in their apps, allowing developers to avoid the cuts Microsoft typically takes in their in-app purchase systems.

Elsewhere, Microsoft has included a new installation experience with Windows 11. Much like Windows 10X, it guides users upgrading to Windows 11 with new hardware or through a series of steps to configure Windows. This built-in experience also includes a new Windows 11 startup sound that triggers every boot.

Microsoft is also improving the Xbox experience on Windows 11. The new Xbox app is now integrated into Windows 11, giving you quick access to Xbox Game Pass games, the social portion of the Xbox network, and the Xbox Store. Both Xbox Game Bar and Windows Game Mode remain the same as Windows 10 in this early leaked build.

Microsoft has hinted that Windows 11 is ready for release . The software giant is holding a special Windows event on June 24 to unveil its next OS. The event kicks off at 11am EST, and the invitation to the event includes a window that creates a shadow with an outline like the number 11. Microsoft executives have also been bullying the “next-generation Windows” announcement for months , and this leak is now confirmed and the Windows 11 launch is expected to be officially revealed this late June 2021.
